Why does everyone hate software testing (and why should everyone test software)?

Sometimes, it is clients, developers, and even testers. Is it true that everyone hates software testing?

Quality Assurance can be a complicated, delicate matter. Finding interesting bugs can be a fun activity like a little detective job. But fun tasks are just a tiny part of an extensive, arduous, and honestly kind of dull work. For most people, most of the time QA sucks.

We do it because it's essential to assure quality if we want to avoid future problems. In software development, well-applied software testing can save hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars in mistakes. According to a Forbes survey, 85% of the researched organizations lost some revenue due to quality issues! All the while 29% of the companies saw a discernible rise in profitability after adopting quality initiatives.

Software testing with love and care

Since software testing is so essential, one must do it anyway. But in the name of everyone's sanity, how can one hate it less?

Here are some advice to put some love for quality assurance into your project:

  1. Incorporate quality into the very core of your work. Foment a business culture of encouraging team collaboration to ensure everyone is on the same page.
  2. Keep quality assurance modern and fresh. Invest in employee training and no-code automated testing tools.
  3. Reward quality results. Measure them well to learn what deserves celebration!

Do you hate QA and/or testing? If not, how did you learn to love it?
